The valve consists of rubber tubing compressed at one end to form leaflets that allow unidirectional air flow.
Connection differentiation, The BD Heimlich valve features a blue end that connects to most patient chest catheters, and a transparent end that connects to a vented drainage bag.
The valve is sterile and single use, and it features sealed transparent housing to help prevent infection.
If necessary, the distal, transparent end can connect to regulated, intermittent sporadic suction for removing secretions.
A transparent, protective plastic chamber with tapered ends encases the valve, enabling you to monitor its performance.
The proximal end of the casing can attach to most chest catheters, and the distal end can connect to tubing that empties into a vented drainage bag.
