- Monocryl™ (poliglecaprone 25) suture is a monofilament synthetic absorbable surgical suture prepared from a copolymer of glycolide and epsilon-caprolactone.
- This suture, being absorbable, should not be used where extended approximation of tissue under stress is required, such as in fascia.
- Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of Monocryl™ Suture occurs by means of hydrolysis. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by a loss of mass.
- Carefully selecting a surgical suture needle is a critical component in achieving excellent wound closure outcomes. The ideal surgical needle should be:
- Sharp enough to penetrate and carry suture through tissue with minimal resistance.
- Slim as possible without compromising strength.
- Rigid to resist bending, yet ductile to resist breaking.
- Stable in the grasp of the needle holder.
- Ethicon offers over 200 types of surgical suture needles, allowing clinicians great flexibility to select the most appropriate needle for the specific needs of the tissue being repaired.
- It is available in Box of 12 Suture Sets.
Application:
- Monocryl™ sutures are indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, but not for use in cardiovascular or neurological tissues, microsurgery or ophthalmic surgery.,
- For Unprecedented Monofilament Pliability and Smooth Passage Through Tissue.
